SUBJECT:                EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY CHANGES IN ELIGIBILITY FOR CHILD CARE

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Child Care Plan allows for temporary changes in eligibility for Child Care Subsidy. Eligibility for the temporary changes that were effective May 1, 2020, has been extended.

Families were eligible to receive a temporary Child Care Subsidy benefit for 90 days of job search. The benefit was available for application through August 31, 2020. DSS is pleased to announce the application for a temporary Child Care Subsidy benefit for families that are unemployed is available through September 30, 2020. Families that apply and qualify would receive 90 days of work search, as long as they apply by September 30, 2020. Families must indicate on their application that they are unemployed due to Covid-19 and must agree that they are continuing to search for employment.

In FAMIS, the Child Care Need (FMAC/CCNEED) screen requires each parent in the eligibility unit to have the COVID-19 Job Search (CJS) code entered as the reason for need. Client statement will be accepted as verification.

Families are also eligible to receive Transitional Child Care (TCC) without first being eligible for traditional child care. Previously, a family applying for Child Care Subsidy as a new applicant between May 1, 2020 and August 31, 2020, could be eligible for TCC when their adjusted gross income was between 139% and 215% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). This temporary benefit has now been extended to be available to families May 1, 2020 through October 31, 2020. Families receiving this temporary benefit will need to reapply for Child Care Subsidy prior to November 1, 2020, to be considered for eligibility after the temporary benefit expires October 31, 2020
