IM-135  09/12/00  DATE OF APP. FOR A FOOD STAMP APP. REC. BY FAX

SUBJECT:
DATE OF APPLICATION FOR A FOOD STAMP APPLICATION RECEIVED BY FAX

DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to advise staff to accept faxed applications.  Normally the date a signed food stamp application is received in the county office is the date of application.  However, if a faxed application is received after a day s normal work hours, the application date is the next working day after the application is received.  For example, if a faxed application is received at 5:15 p.m. on September 1, 2000 the date of application is September 5, 2000 because September 4th is a holiday.

Handle incomplete faxed applications in the same manner as mailed-in or dropped off applications.  If an incomplete faxed application is received, return the application to the household or contact the household to request the missing information.  Screen for expedited eligibility and provide expedited benefits in a timely manner if the food stamp household is eligible for expedited Benefits.

NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with all appropriate staff.

  •
  • Accept faxed food stamp applications.

  •
  • Treat faxed applications received after the day s normal work hours as received the next working day.
