FSU5 DEATH REASON CODE
 
DISCUSSION:
Effective immediately, use reason code "38" in field 09 of FSU5/IM-105 form for a food stamp case being closed or rejected due to death. 

Beginning with the March 2000 aging file, aging notices will not be sent for food stamp cases that are identified as closed/rejected due to death, using FSU5 reason code "38" or code "48" computer generated death closing.

Notices will continue to be generated for food stamp cases closed/rejected due to death prior to the implementation of reason code "38".  To prevent a notice from being generated for food stamp cases closed/rejected due to death, identify the case as saving benefits in EBTU.  Take the following steps to complete this action:

  • Access EBTU.  In the action field type a "C" for change.

  • Enter a "Y" in the aging override field.

    •  
  • Press enter.  The message will read "Record Updated."
 
NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with all appropriate staff.

    •  
  • Use reason code "38" in field 09 of FSU5 to identify food stamp cases closed/rejected due to death.

    •  
  • Update EBTU to identify food stamp cases closed/rejected due to death prior to the implementation of reason code "38".
