IM-63 3/29/01 EXPUNGED FOOD STAMP BENEFITS AND CLAIM BALANCE REDUCTION
SUBJECT: |
EXPUNGED FOOD STAMP BENEFITS AND CLAIM BALANCE REDUCTION |
DISCUSSION: |
Food stamp benefits are expunged if they
are not accessed within one year from authorization or last use.
Once expunged, households may not request these benefits to be reissued.
Effective immediately, expunged food stamp benefits will be used to reduce food stamp claim balances. The expunged benefit file will be run against the Claims Accounting and Restitution System (CARS) database monthly. Food stamp benefits that have been expunged since the expungement process began will be applied to any food stamp claim for that household on the initial run. After the initial run, benefits that are expunged each month will be applied to the claim balances at the next run. Expunged food stamp benefits that exceed the balance of the claim will only have the amount of the balance reduced. Negative balances and refunds will not be given. No action is required by county staff. After this process runs each month, food stamp claim reductions are posted on the OVPT screen. Transaction code 14 is used to identify these claim balance reductions. |
