IM-76  06/21/02  ELIMINATION OR REDUCTION OF SOME ADULT MEDICAID BENEFITS

SUBJECT:
ELIMINATION OR REDUCTION OF SOME ADULT MEDICAID BENEFITS

DISCUSSION:
House Bill 1111 eliminated or reduced the following benefits for adults under the Medicaid and MC+ programs.  Adults are defined as those individuals age 21 or over.
  • Routine dental care, including extractions and denture repair.  Dentures will still be covered.  Special dental care as a result of serious injury will be covered.
  • Eyeglasses, except following cataract surgery, and Visual examinations will still be covered.
  • Other than insulin, over-the-counter medications (even with a prescription) will no longer be covered.  Insulin syringes will still be covered.
The Division of Medical Services (DMS) has begun mailing letters notifying all adult Medicaid/MC+ recipients of the above changes.  DMS has posted a notice of the dental and vision changes on their state web site.  Copies of the notice and letters are attached to this memorandum.

Recipients should be referred to DMS Recipient Services Unit at 1-800-392-2161 if they have any questions regarding the changes in coverage.

NECESSARY ACTION:
