DISCUSSION:
Effective October 1, 2008, all tax-preferred retirement accounts and all tax-preferred education accounts are excluded from resources for the Food Stamp Program. This memorandum addresses the following issues related to these changes.
- New resource codes;
- Description changes of existing resource codes; and
- Food Stamp Manual revision.
This change is being made during the mass adjustments the weekend of September 6, 2008 (refer to Memorandum IM-#68 October Benefit Adjustment).
New Resource Codes
FAMIS determines if the resource is included or excluded for each program according to the following chart.

Food Stamp Manual Revision
Section 1110.020.40 Pensions and Savings Plans are revised to show the new codes 4A and CO with their description. The description of code DC and IR are revised to show the additional accounts types.
