DISCUSSION:
Effective July 13, 2009, income source GI – Graduate Student Income for income type ED – Education is added to FAMIS. Loans or grants payable to a graduate student for educational purposes are included as income for the Family HealthCare and Temporary Assistance Programs, and excluded for the Food Stamp and Child Care Programs. Examples of loans or grants include Basic Educational Opportunity Grants Program (BEOG), Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (SEOG), National Direct Student Loans (NDSL), Guaranteed Student Loans, and PELL grants.
FAMIS Entry
The educational income type and source codes have not changed for students in undergraduate programs. Continue to enter the following undergraduate sources on the Income (FMX0) screen in FAMIS as income type ED – Educational Income and source code.
- JS – WIA Student Tuition,
- NA – Student Assistance Title IV,
- N4 – Student Assistance not Title IV Funded,
- VE – Vets Education Assist (Not CC Compensation),
- VC – Vets Education Assist (CC Compensation), or
- BI – Bureau of Indian Affairs on the Income ( FMX0) screen in FAMIS.
To ensure that student income is budgeted correctly, review the participant’s student type on the Educational Detail (FMAI) screen in FAMIS. Type ‘CG’ is used for graduate student. Remember to enter any expenses on the Income Expense (FMX1) screen in FAMIS.
The Income Code Chart will be revised with these changes.
