DISCUSSION:
On June 19, 2010, the Information Technology Services Division and the Family Support Division will adjust Supplemental Aid to the Blind (SAB) and Blind Pension (BP) cases based on changes effective July 1, 2010. A notice will be mailed to BP and SAB participants informing them that the maximum grant will increase July 1, 2010.
Supplemental Aid to the Blind and Blind Pension Adjustments
The maximum cash grant for Supplemental Aid to the Blind and Blind Pension is increased to $686.00 for actions effective July 2010 and later. Use the new maximum of $686.00 for all SAB and BP IMU5 transactions beginning June 19, 2010, effective for July 2010 and later. After the mass adjustment, issue payments for June or previous months as a retroactive payment. No IM-5 turnaround forms will be produced for these adjustments.
EXAMPLE: Mr. Smith applied for BP on June 1, 2010. The Eligibility Specialist completes the approval on June 16, 2010. Mr. Smith is eligible for a BP grant payment of $651 for June. The June BP grant is issued as a retroactive payment in field 44 of IMU5. Mr. Smith is eligible for a $686 BP grant beginning in July 2010. The $686.00 BP grant for July and later months is issued through IMU5 by entering 00686 00 in field 36 GRANT AMT (grant amount) and 0710 in field 37 1st CHK MO (first check month).
The following reports will be generated to MOBIUS and will be available after the mass adjustment:
- “Cases Adjusted” - this listing will display cases adjusted during the mass adjustment; it is for informational purposes only.
- The “Cases Not Adjusted” - this listing will display the Aid to the Blind cases with an amount other than $686.00 in Field 33. Take immediate action to review and adjust these cases as necessary.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.
- Beginning June 19, 2010, for July 2010 actions use the new grant amount noted in this memorandum.
