- EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC)
DISCUSSION:
The Administration of Children and Families, in conjunction with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), is increasing efforts to provide information to program participants who may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or other tax credits for tax year 2010.
A large number of families qualify for additional credits each year and are unaware that these credits are available. Credits other than EITC include:
- Child Tax Credit
- Child and Dependent Care Credit
- Making Work Pay Credit, and
- New American Opportunity Credit.
Based on an individual’s circumstance, these credits could increase tax refunds from $1 to more than $5,666. To obtain these credits, the individual must file an IRS tax return and claim the tax credits. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) provide free tax preparation services.
