- SUBJECT:
- SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION CHANGES IN CERTAIN SERVICES
DISCUSSION:
Effective February 1, 2014, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will no longer offer Social Security number (SSN) printouts and benefit verification information in SSA field offices.
Beneficiaries and recipients needing a Social Security benefit verification letter can obtain one immediately by registering for a "my Social Security" account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount/, or through the mail within 5-7 days by calling the national toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213. Individuals needing proof of their Social Security Number (SSN) will have to apply for a replacement card. The application for a replacement card can be obtained online or at the nearest Social Security office.
A flyer titled "Important Information: Changes to Certain Services Beginning February 2014" is attached and should be displayed in the reception area of each office for participants.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Share this memorandum with staff.
- Assist the participant in obtaining all information. This may include helping them register for a "my Social Security" account.
- Post the Important Information flyer in the reception area of each office.
