- FROM:
- ALYSON CAMPBELL, DIRECTOR
- SUBJECT:
- SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION CHANGES IN CERTAIN SERVICES
DISCUSSION:
Income Maintenance Memorandum #3 dated January 30, 2014 stated the Social Security Administration (SSA) will no longer offer Social Security number (SSN) printouts and benefit verification information in SSA field offices, effective February 1, 2014.
The SSA has decided to delay implementation these changes. Beginning August 2014, the SSA will stop issuing printouts in their field offices. Beginning October 2014, the SSA will stop providing benefit verification letters.
Although individuals may currently obtain this information from SSA field offices, it is still important to assist recipients with registering for a “my Social Security” account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount/, or by providing the national toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213.
Individuals needing proof of their Social Security Number (SSN) must apply for a replacement card. The application for a replacement card may be obtained online or at the nearest Social Security office.
A flyer titled “Important Information: Changes to Certain Services Beginning August 2014” is attached and should be displayed in the reception area of each office for participants.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Share this memorandum with staff.
- Assist the participant in obtaining all information. This may include helping them register for a “my Social Security” account.
- Post the Important Information flyer in the reception area of each office.
