DISCUSSION:

The purpose of this memorandum is to notify staff of updates to the IRS Safeguards and new sections in the General Information Manual. These policies regarding the safeguarding of FTI and protected information are effective immediately.

General Information Manual sections 0160.000.00 through 0165.005.00 have been updated regarding policy on Safeguarding Federal Tax Information (FTI). Updates include adding:

The IRS Notice Log, used for tracking FTI has been updated in regards to the destruction of FTI. The IRS Notice Log can be found in the IM-Forms manual.

New sections 0107.010.00 through 0107.010.15 are added to the General Information manual on safeguarding protected information while it is being transmitted.
