- PREPAID CARDS AS RESOURCES
- MANUAL REVISION #27
1110.000.00 RESOURCES
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to introduce a revision to the Food Stamp policy section, 1110.000.00 RESOURCES. Policy now includes prepaid Visa and Master cards, smiONE cards, and Direct Express cards as a liquid resource.
These cards are typically treated as an alternative to a traditional bank account. The cardholders may deposit money to the cards and may also have Child Support, Social Security, Unemployment or payroll checks directly deposited to the card.
These cards are to be entered in FAMIS as a resource to the actual cardholder. Do not count current month’s income deposited to the card or outstanding transactions on the card as a liquid resource.
Store specific gift cards are not counted as a resource or as income.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.
