DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to inform staff that policy has been revised to clarify who is considered an eligible caretaker for Temporary Assistance (TA).
In the event of a divorce, the relationship between a step parent and a step child is severed. Only if the step parent has legal guardianship of the child does it supersede the divorce.Example: John was married to Louise’s mother but is not her biological father. They get divorced, severing the step parent/child relationship. However, John has legal guardianship of Louise, therefore he is eligible to apply for and receive TA on Louise.
