DISCUSSION:
The MAGI Manual policy section, 1805.030.10.25 Caretaker Relatives, has been updated to correct a misstated example.
Previously, the policy example of Melissa who lives with her two children and her children’s father stated that Melissa’s household size is two. The corrected household size is three.
EXAMPLE: Melissa applied for MO HealthNet (MHN) for herself and her two children. She lives with the father of her children but she is not married to the father. The father claims the children as tax dependents. Melissa does not work and does not file taxes. Melissa’s household would follow non-tax filer rules. She would be eligible for MHF as a household size of 3 (herself and two children), if all other eligible criteria are met. The children’s household size is four: the two children, the mother and the father.
As Melissa lives with the children, is not married to their father with whom they all reside, and does not expect to claim the children as tax dependents or file taxes follow the rules for a non-tax filer when constructing Melissa’s household composition.
NECESSARY ACTION:
Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.
