DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to introduce revisions in policy regarding available and affordable insurance for the Children’s Health Insurance Programs (CHIP) and to obsolete a form. Affected by this policy revision are the CHIP Premium and Show-Me Healthy Babies programs.
The manual sections referred to above have been revised to reflect that if affordable employer sponsored insurance is not available to an individual or family, access to affordable private insurance must be explored. This determination is made with the Affordability Calculator.
If the calculator determines that affordable insurance is available in the individual’s county they are not eligible for a CHIP level of coverage. If the individual disagrees with this determination, they may give quotes verbally at a FSD office or through the FSD Information Center at 1-855-FSD-INFO (1-855-373-4636) or submit their quotes in writing at any FSD Resource Center or Office.
We are no longer using the MO HealthNet Insurance Company Quotes (IM-5) form. This document is now obsolete and removed from the forms manual. All insurance quotes may be reported verbally or in writing. FSD staff should accept the individual’s self-attestation.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.
- Immediately discontinue use of and destroy all copies of the MO HealthNet Insurance Company Quotes (IM-5)
