IM-72  06/26/98 MC+ PHONE CENTERS

SUBJECT:
MC+ PHONE CENTERS

DISCUSSION:
The Children's Health Initiative will expand health care coverage to uninsured children throughout the state.  In an effort to reduce burden to staff and to simplify the MC+ application process, seven phone centers have been established throughout the state.  A phone center is located in each DFS administrative area, and will be staffed by caseworkers, effective July 1, 1998.

The purpose of the phone centers is to provide the public with easy access to information about the expansion of the MC+ program and to accept MC+ applications.

The toll-free number for the phone centers is 888-275-5908.  Beginning July 1, 1998, calls will be directed to one of the phone centers based on the area code and prefix of the phone from which the call is placed.  If that center's phone is busy, the call will be directed to another one of the phone centers.

Any requests for MC+ mail-outs or information received in the county offices must be handled by staff in the office.  DO NOT refer the caller to the toll-free number for assistance.  However, they may be told to contact the toll-free number if they have questions when they receive the application in the mail.

NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.
