IM-106  08/11/99  POLICY REVISIONS: SUPPORTIVE SERVICES

SUBJECT:
POLICY REVISIONS: SUPPORTIVE SERVICES

DISCUSSION:
The following policy revisions expedite the delivery of work related expenses and expand supportive services to employed individuals who remain eligible for Temporary Assistance.

Work Related Expense Approval

It is no longer necessary to obtain State Office approval of expenses that exceed $350.00.  Approval for supportive services greater than $350.00 in a 12 month period will now have prior approval from Area Office.  It will be necessary to continue calling State Office for an override in the JOBS system.

Employed Participants Who Remain Eligible for Temporary Assistance

Provide transportation-related (TRE) and work-related (WRE) expenses to employed participants who remain eligible for Temporary Assistance.  If the employed participant is engaged in another work activity as well as employment, TRE may be provided to support this activity in addition to employment for a maximum of $10.00 per day.  Provide child care to eligible participants. When budgeting to determine need for child care, include the income from the unsubsidized employment.

If increased earned income causes ineligibility for Temporary Assistance, continue to provide supportive services for up to 90 days.

NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with all appropriate staff.
  • Establish procedure for Area approval of WRE expenses above $350.00.
  • Begin allowing TRE and WRE for participants who are employed and remain eligible for cash assistance.
