IM-23  03/22/99  TRANSPORTATION

SUBJECT:
TRANSPORTATION

DISCUSSION:
In our efforts to address the issue of transportation, the Department is working closely with the Welfare Reform Coordinating Committee/Transportation Subcommittee to assist Community Partnerships in developing local and/or regional transportation programs.

The subcommittee would like to compose a list of transportation "Best Practices" that are currently being used in counties.  We need to know what methods you are using to assist with the transportation needs of your participants. If you had a transportation plan that has been used in the past that was temporary, would it be used now if resources were available?

This could include information on:

  • Existing public, specialized, and private transportation providers and the purchase of transportation through tickets/ tokens;
  • Use of volunteers;
  • Participants who have access to his/her own personal transportation, and assist other Temporary Assistant Participants in getting to work;
  • Assistance with minor car repairs;
  • Participants receiving transportation support.
This information will be very useful to the committee as we continue to work on plans that will best assist our participants with their transportation needs to help them reach their goals of employment.

Please send your responses to Brenda Shipman no later than March 31, 1999.  Brenda can be reached at 573-751-2037 if you have further questions.
