Take the following steps to approve QMB in combination with another type of assistance:
- Approve the other type of assistance as for any other approval. On the approval IM-5/IMU5, enter QMB eligibility “Y” in field 13M1, and the eligibility date in field 13M2.
NOTE: THE QMB ELIGIBILITY DATE CANNOT PRECEDE THE FIRST OF THE MONTH FOLLOWING THE MONTH OF THE DETERMINATION.
- Send the IM-32 to provide notice of eligibility for QMB and the other type of assistance.
- Send the client a copy of the IM-4(QMB) and the IM-4 for the other type of assistance.
- Take no action on the “Q” type of assistance application. When the other type of assistance is approved with the QMB eligibility indicator and appropriate dates as above, the QMB application is automatically rejected. Coverage for QMB is then included as a part of the other type of assistance, and will be shown on the approval turnaround. A turnaround IMU5 for the QMB rejection will be generated showing a rejection code of “20C”.
