Certain Hmong, Laotian Highlanders can receive food stamp benefits. These individuals can receive food stamps indefinitely as long as they meet other food stamp financial and non-financial requirements.
Hmong and Laotian Highlanders who can receive benefits are those:
- who are lawfully residing in the United States; AND
- who were a member of a Hmong or Laotian tribe at the time that the tribe rendered assistance to United States personnel by taking part in a military or rescue operation during the Vietnam era beginning August 5, 1964, and ending May 7, 1975
The spouse or unremarried surviving spouse and unmarried dependent children of a Hmong and Laotian Highlander may also be eligible for food stamp benefits.
