Temporary Assistance/Case Management Manual

0200.000.00 Overview of the Temporary Assistance Program

The Temporary Assistance program provides cash assistance for families so they can care for their children in their own homes. Families receive support and services to assist them in engaging in job preparation and work activities. The goal is for families to become independent of the need for cash assistance. Temporary Assistance fosters the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.

Effective August 28, 2013, the use of Temporary Assistance benefits issued on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card is restricted at specified establishments. Use of Temporary Assistance benefits issued on an EBT card is prohibited in any liquor store, casino, gambling casino, gaming establishment, any retail establishment which provides adult-oriented entertainment, or in any place or for any item that is primarily marketed for or used by adults eighteen or older and/or is not in the best interests of the child(ren) or household.

For additional information regarding restrictions on EBT transactions, see 0150.015.11 Restrictions on Use of Temporary Assistance Benefits.
