Make service referrals at any contact with a family when a need exists or when someone requests a referral. The family should always agree to such a referral with the exception of suspected abuse or neglect. As a mandated reporter, if abuse or neglect is suspected, you are required to make a referral through consultation with local Children’s Division staff or are to call the Child Abuse/Neglect hotline (800-392-3738).
