2010.050.05 Employment

Employment must be paid employment and verified by the source. Employment is a valid need as long as a parent(s) continues to work.  A parent may use employment as a valid need as long as they continue to meet other eligibility requirements.

Child care providers providing care to Six or Fewer children (SOF) are not eligible for Child Care Subsidy for their own child(ren) while they are providing care to other children. An SOF is the sole caregiver of the child(ren).

Participants claiming to work for an SOF provider are not eligible for employment as a need for care, as this is not valid employment.

Verification of Employment

If the need for Child Care Subsidy is employment, verify and document that the participant is employed.  Methods of verification can be, but are not limited to, any of the following:

  • Employment Verification Form;
  • Wage Stubs;
  • The Work Number;
  • Telephone call to the employer; or
  • Statement from the employer, written on company letterhead.

Verification of Employment should include the participant’s wages as well as their work schedule, to support authorization to the provider. If the verification received contains enough information for a reasonable person to determine the work schedule (wages and schedule/hours worked), an authorization can be entered without having to request additional verification of work schedule

If employment verification is not sufficient to support an authorization to a provider, the CD202 Child Care Schedule Verification form can be used to verify work schedule.

For self-employed individuals:

  • If the business has been in operation for more than a year, obtain a copy of the individual’s previous year’s tax return, including all schedules.
  • If the business has not been in operation more than a year, obtain a copy of the individual’s business records.  These business records must show all income and expenses, as well as the dates received and incurred.

Authorizing Employment

Authorize the child to a child care provider based on the verified schedule.
