Participants who receive Supplemental Aid to the Blind (SAB) are not included in the Temporary Assistance (TA) determination. SAB participants may be the payee-only on a TA case. The individual may elect to receive TA rather than SAB if s/he meets all TA eligibility requirements; however, receiving SAB is usually more advantageous than TA.
Participants who receive Blind Pension (BP) are included in the TA determination. Their income and needs are used to determine eligibility. If they are eligible for TA based on the inclusion of the BP grant, they must choose between receiving TA or BP. They cannot receive both. Receiving BP is usually more advantageous than TA.
