The Education Directly Related to Employment activity is countable toward work participation requirements when the Temporary Assistance (TA) recipient is seeking or has already obtained employment where a general education development (GED) or high school diploma is required, or continued employment is conditional on receiving this diploma. TA recipients who have already obtained an overseas diploma may be placed in this activity if the diploma is not recognized by the employer.
NOTE: Activities in the Education Directly Related to Employment are only allowed for TA recipients who do not have a high school diploma or GED.
Countable hours for the Education Directly Related to Employment include:
- Assessment to determine if the TA recipient is able to participate in the educational or training activity;
- Adult Education and Literacy (AEL), including supervised homework and study activities related to AEL;
- Limited English Proficiency (LEP) when provided as a component of the course of study;
- GED preparatory classes and testing; and
- High School Equivalency.
