IM-152  8/10/01  RELATIONSHIP CODE OF THE PROVIDER TO THE CHILD

SUBJECT:
RELATIONSHIP CODE OF THE PROVIDER TO THE CHILD

DISCUSSION:
Federal reporting requirements instruct states to capture child care providers' relationship to the child/ren in care.  The relationship field on the child's authorization screen, FM3O, previously required a "y" or "n" entry.  FAMIS blocked the entry of this field in early 2000.  Effective the afternoon of August 14, 2001, a relative code entry will be required.

COUNTY RESPONSIBILITY

Each time a child authorization is added, updated, or closed, an entry in the relationship field is required.  This applies to new authorizations entered and any current child authorizations that are modified as of August 14, 2001.

The current provider registration documents, IM-91 and FA-350, have a section for the provider to complete indicating their relationship to the children in care.  Use this information when coding the relationship indicator on the child authorization screen, FM3O.

The valid relationship codes for the provider to the child are:

  • Grandparent
  • Great-grandparent,
  • Aunt,
  • Uncle,
  • Niece,
  • Nephew,
  • Sibling-not living with the child in care
  • Half-sibling-not living with the child in care,
  • First cousin, and
  • Non-related person.
Verification of relationship of the provider to the child is required only when relationship is questioned.  Use standard verification methods, such as birth and marriage records, to verify relationship when necessary.

Contact the FAMIS Help Desk at 1-800MOFAMIS for assistance with relationship code entries.

NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with all appropriate staff.
  • Effective the afternoon of August 14, 2001, enter relationship codes on all child authorizations and updates.
