IM-32SPDN NOTICE OF APPROVAL FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE SPENDDOWN

DISCUSSION:
The IM-32SPDN, Notification of Approval for Medicaid Spenddown, has been developed to inform the client that their application for Medical Assistance has been approved on a spenddown basis.  This letter is to be sent once Medical Assistance eligibility on all factors except meeting spenddown is established.  It gives them the amount of their spenddown with instructions on what they must do to obtain coverage.

The letter informs them of the amount of medical bills that they have already provided while waiting for eligibility to be established and the amount of bills still needed to meet that specific month's spenddown.  It also informs the client of the months for which they have provided enough medical bills to meet the spenddown.  The Notice of Spenddown Coverage (IM-29SPDN) does not need to be sent for months that the IM-32SPDN notifies the client they have met spenddown.

The IM-31SPND is now obsolete.  It is replaced by the following:

  • Use IM-31A to request medical bills prior to approving the case (while the case eligibility is pending but the spenddown has been determined).
  • Use IM-32 SPDN at the time of approval to request bills for the month of application, prior quarter, months between application month and approval month.
  • The invoice generated by the system requests bills or payment for the month of approval and future months.
 
NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.

  • Begin using the new IM-32SPDN upon receipt.

  • File the IM-32SPDN(pdf) and instructions(pdf) in the Forms Manual.

  • Order additional supplies of IM-32SPDN from the warehouse as needed.
