IM-152  11/17/03  MC+ OUTREACH BY ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION

SUBJECT:
MC+ OUTREACH BY ROBERT WOOD JOHNSON FOUNDATION
DISCUSSION:
Staff should expect an increase in inquiries with regard to MC+ and Medicaid as a result of outreach activities of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Covering Kids & Families initiative.  Across the country, national, regional and local businesses are sharing their marketing channels with Covering Kids & Families in order to reach customers whose children may be eligible for health care coverage under MC+.  These businesses will be alerting their customers to the availability of low-cost and free health care coverage programs for children by promoting the national toll-free 1(877) KIDS-NOW number.  Callers will be automatically connected to their state program.  Callers from Missouri will be connected to the phone center at 1-888-275-5908.

One example of this partnering is with Capital One Financial Corporation who alerted their customers to the availability of low-cost or free health care coverage programs by promoting the national toll-free number in their monthly billing statements.   Another corporate partner is CVS/pharmacy who will print information about MC+ and Medicaid and the national toll-free number on prescription information sheets.  Previous outreach activities of the Covering Kids and Families initiative have included the nationwide Back-to-School effort to promote enrollment in MC+ and Medicaid.

NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review with appropriate staff.
