- SUBJECT:
- EXIT STATEMENT FOR THE SHELTER EXPENSE SCREEN
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to introduce a new exit statement on the Shelter Expense (SHELEXP/FMXK) screen. This is effective April 1, 2013.
An analysis of Quality Control (QC) payment errors has shown that allowing an incorrect rent expense is a frequent case error. When asked, "How much is your rent?" most applicants will answer the total amount of their rent, not the amount that they are responsible to pay. QC often finds the rent expense is shared with another household member or paid by an organization that provides public housing aid.
To reduce the error of incorrect rent expense and improve payment accuracy, an exit statement has been developed for the Shelter Expense screen when the expense of rent (RT) is entered.
- The exit statement will read "Is this the amount of rent actually paid by the individual? (Y/N)."
- The eligibility specialist (ES) will confirm with the applicant the answer they provided is the actual amount of rent they are responsible to pay.
- An answer "Y" or "N" must be entered.
- If the answer is "N" (no), the Eligibility Specialist will be prompted to correct the expense amount before flowing forward.
- If the answer is "Y" (yes), the Eligibility Specialist will be allowed to flow forward.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Review this memorandum with all appropriate staff.
