- NEW PRICING FOR MEDICAL RECORDS
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to inform staff that, House Bill 351 (2013) effective August 28, 2013, increases the maximum fees Family Support Division will pay to health care providers to obtain medical records.
Paper Records
Payment to obtain paper medical records may not exceed the following maximums:
2/1/2013 or after | |

• Copying (supplies and labor) | $.53/page |
• If the provider has contracted for off-site records storage and management, |

Electronic Records
Health Care records may be requested in an electronic or digital format if the request meets the following requirements:
- The client, the client’s authorized representative, or any other person or entity authorized by law to obtain such records requests health records to be delivered electronically in a format of the health care provider’s choice;
- The health care provider stores such records completely in an electronic health record; and
- The health care provider is capable of providing the requested records and affidavit, if requested, in an electronic format.
Payment to obtain electronic health care records is as follows:
- Before August 28, 2013, $5.34 plus $.53/page or $26.71 total, whichever is less.
- August 28, 2013, or after, payment is based on the search, retrieval and copying fees in effect at the time of the request (listed above) or $100 total, whichever is less.
The fees for medical records are adjusted annually effective February 1st.
