DISCUSSION:
This memo introduces a revision to the air evacuation (AE) code as an allowable medical expense deduction for the Food Stamps program. Air evacuation (AE) is medically supervised air transportation, to and between medical treatment facilities. The AE code can also be used when an individual is paying an air evacuation policy or membership premium.
Allow air evacuation (AE) expense for any eligibility unit (EU) member who is elderly or disabled. Enter air evacuation expense on the Medical Expense (MEDEXP/FMXA) screen with type code of AE.
Accept client statement (CS) if the claimed expense is less than $35. If the expense is greater than $35 verification is required. Review the Budgeting Medical Expenses procedure guide.
