3.1 Primary Prevention Overview
This section will discuss the Primary Prevention Program.
The Children’s Division understands the importance of family preservation and connection of families to their communities. The purpose of the Primary Prevention Program is to support families so they can thrive, for children to remain safely with their families, and families to use their support networks and community connections. The goal is to reduce the likelihood of future child abuse and neglect. The Primary Prevention Program strives to meet families where they are by seeking to understand their circumstances and unique challenges and engaging collaboratively to tailor services and provide resources which fit their individual needs.
The Primary Prevention Program engages with families to avert the potential for child abuse and neglect before it occurs by connecting families to community services, programs and developing sustainable family supports.
