To be eligible for CHIP, children in the CHIP group must meet all eligibility requirements in section 1805.000.00 Eligibility and Verification must be met in addition to the following:
- Need (see 1840.010.05 Need)
- Children must be uninsured (see 1840.010.10 Uninsured)
- Cannot have access to insurance through a family member’s employment with a public agency
NOTE: Children who do not qualify for CHIP 4M because they are insured, qualify for MO HealthNet for Kids Non-CHIP.
Premium Groups
Children in the premium groups must:
- Have no access to affordable health insurance (see 1840.010.15 Access to Affordable Health Insurance)
- Pay a premium
NOTE: For a pregnant child (individual under age 19), determine ineligibility for the non-CHIP group (MHK), 4M, and the MO HealthNet for Pregnant Women (MPW) program prior to approval for Show Me Healthy Babies (SMHB) coverage. Refer to 1855.020.70 Ineligible for Any Other MO HealthNet Programs for more information on pregnant children who meet CHIP 73, 74 or 75 income standards.
