One burial plot per EU member is excluded. The equity amount of additional plots are considered as a resource. List all burial plots owned by each EU member. FAMIS excludes the first plot per EU member and counts the equity of additional plots minus any debt toward the resource limit.
EXAMPLE: Mr. Jones owns a burial plot at the local cemetery next to his deceased spouse. He does not owe anything on this plot. Mr. Jones later remarries and reports that he is purchasing an additional plot with his new spouse. One of the plots is an excluded resource. The equity of the additional plot is considered a resource. The additional plot Mr. Jones is purchasing is worth $500, he owes $200. The burial plot resource amount is $300 ($500 value – $200 still owed = $300 equity).
Review prior to authorizing a case action to ensure resources you expect to be excluded are excluded in the determination. If the resource is incorrect, return to the appropriate screen and correct the inaccurate information.
