IM-148  11/18/02  BUDGETING CHILD SUPPORT INCOME IN FAMIS

SUBJECT:
BUDGETING CHILD SUPPORT INCOME IN FAMIS
DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this memorandum is to clarify the budgeting process for child support income in FAMIS for the Food Stamp and Child Care Programs.

Child support income is income to the individual to whom the support is paid.  The child support income is recorded on the Income (FMX0) and Income Amount (FMX3) screens in FAMIS for the payee of the income.

EXAMPLE:  Mr. A and Mrs. A are divorced.  Mrs. A retained custody of the couple's two children.  Mr. A is ordered to pay Mrs. A $400 monthly child support.  The child support income is Mrs. A's income.
If the payee of the income sends part of the child support payment to an individual outside the household, the income is still budgeted as the payee's income.
EXAMPLE:  Mr. and Mrs. A's eldest child goes to college away from home.  Mrs. A sends $200 of the child support income to the child in college.  Budget the full $400 for Mrs. A as the child support income is her income.
NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with all appropriate staff.
  • Attribute child support income to the individual to whom the child support income is paid.
