MEMORANDUM
2004 Memorandums
IM-105      10/01/04
SUBJECT:
TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE CONVERSION INTO FAMIS
SUBPROGRAMS CONVERTED TO FAMIS
DISCUSSION:
This memorandum is another in the series to help staff prepare for Temporary Assistance conversion into FAMIS and discusses subprogram choices.

SUBPROGRAMS
For Temporary Assistance applications there will be four subprogram choices for staff to work with. They are:

  • CSH   CASH
  • GFP   GRANDPARENTS AS FOSTER PARENTS
  • NPC   NEEDY/NON-NEEDY NON-PARENT CARETAKER
  • URG   UNRELATED GUARDIAN

It is necessary for staff to choose which subprogram they are working with on the REQUEST (FM0G) screen when taking an application. There may be more than one application taken for the head of the eligibility unit (EU) and staff may choose multiple applications when on the REQUEST screen. Staff will continue to need to have a discussion with the participant prior to entering the request to prevent duplication of work. Once the choice is made the application will have the eligibility determined under the program chosen. FAMIS runs the separate subprogram determinations based on this entry.

EXAMPLE: Mr. Keyes has come into the office to apply for cash assistance for himself, his 4 year old daughter, his niece, and his grandson for whom he has guardianship. Mr. Keyes has requested the Grandparents As Foster Parents application as he needs assistance with legal fees and child care. He will have 3 separate applications entered. One for:
  • CSH on himself and his daughter
  • NPC on his niece
  • GFP on his grandson

In this situation, FAMIS determines eligibility on each individual case. It is not necessary to go through the controlled flow for each application. If the participant later choose to apply for another subprogram another controlled flow is required.

A user guide to follow this memorandum will explain in detail the use of subprograms and will be out closer to Temporary Assistance conversion.

NECESSARY ACTION:
