SUBJECT:
FOOD STAMP APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE AN INTERVIEW IS CONDUCTED
DISCUSSION:
This memorandum is to clarify policy for conducting an interview when an individual applies or reapplies for food stamp benefits. An application for food stamp benefits is required before an interview is conducted. An application is filed if it contains a name, address, and signature. Refer to Food Stamp Manual section 1120.010.00 for processing applications received in the mail.

When an individual contacts the office indicating they wish to apply for food stamp benefits, mail an FS-1 FOOD STAMP APPLICATION packet or tell them how to find an application on the Internet. Do not register an application or conduct an interview prior to receiving an application in the county office.

 
NECESSARY ACTION:
  • Review this memorandum with appropriate staff.
  • Do not conduct an interview prior to receiving an application with name, address, and signature in the county office.
