IM-41    05/06/04
SUBJECT:
2004 EAT FOR HEALTH TOOL KIT
DISCUSSION:
The 2004 Eat for Health tool kit provided by the Missouri Nutrition Network (MNN) is being sent to each county office by MNN.  The Family Support Division is a partner of MNN in providing Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE).

The goal of Food Stamp Nutrition Education is to improve the eating and physical activity behaviors of food stamp participants within their limited budgets by using the principles of the “Dietary Guidelines for Americans” and “The Food Guide Pyramid.”  When Congress created the Food Stamp Program in the early 1960’s, it envisioned a program to provide low-income Americans with access to a healthy, nutritious diet.

Recently attention has focused on providing nutrition education and services to program participants to address the rising epidemic of overweight and obesity in America.  A majority of adults in America are overweight, putting them at risk for serious health problems including heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and some cancers.

Please display the posters contained in the tool kit in your lobby area.  Determine whether the other information contained in the tool kit can be utilized in your office.  Be aware of MNN or other FSNE activities in your community and cooperate in administering the activities.
