IM-117 08/29/03 AVOIDING DUPLICATE DCN ASSIGNMENT
SUBJECT: |
AVOIDING DUPLICATE DCN ASSIGNMENT |
DISCUSSION: |
We are experiencing an increase in the
number of duplicate DCN assignments. Duplicate DCNs can lead to individuals
not receiving correct benefits or individuals receiving duplicate issuances.
It also creates additional work for staff.
It is important to carefully screen all individuals before assigning a DCN, especially children. All children born 1994 and after in the State of Missouri were assigned a DCN. Accurate clearing will locate the DCN for these children and for any individual who already has a DCN. An error in clearing will result in a duplicate DCN being assigned. For a review of procedures to clear and assign a DCN, refer to FAMIS user guide SCREENING PROCEDURE located in the FAMIS Clerical Information Guides. If a duplicate DCN is discovered, refer to FAMIS user guide Duplicate DCN Resolution for instructions. |
