FOOD STAMP SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER VERIFICATION CODE |
DISCUSSION: |
The purpose of this memorandum
is to notify staff of a change in acceptable verification codes for food
stamp applicants of Social Security numbers on the SSN Information (FMAS)
screen and to clarify procedures. Effective immediately, when a food stamp applicant provides the Social Security number for an EU member but it is not yet verified, client's statement is an acceptable form of verification. Type or prompt for "CS" as verification on the SSN Information (FMAS) screen in the Ver field. Quarterly, all new Social Security numbers entered into the system are submitted to the Social Security Administration for verification. When the Social Security number is verified by the Social Security Administration, "V" appears in the Verification Indicator field on the Social Services Common Client Data Update screen (DCNU028) and on the Social Services SSN Search screen. The verification code "SY" appears in the Ver field on the SSN Information (FMAS) screen. If the Social Security number submitted to the Social Security Administration cannot be verified by the Social Security Administration for the individual submitted, the code "S" appears on the Social Services Common Client Data Update screen (DCNU028) and on the Social Services SSN Search screen. The verification code is not updated in FAMIS. When a Social Security number has not yet been submitted to the Social Security Administration for verification, the Verification Code "N" appears on the Social Services Common Client Data Update (DCNU028) screen and the Social Services SSN Search screen.
